plywood boat stringers
Marine plywood for stringers!!! while pressure treated has it's advantages, you need to find the old cca treated, the new ac2 eats most fasteners unless they're stainless. the other problem is that most all pressure treated needs to dry a good month in order to get any kind of a bond with the resins.. The most abuse the boat sees is the hole shot and some tight corners, so i think i can get away with wood stringers for a replacement. i've been searching the net finding out what people use. i see lots of things about pt plywood, and exterior plywood, being cut and lap jointed, screwed together with resin and a layer of fiberglass in between.. The stringers will be bedded in epoxy putty then fiber glassed to the hull with biaxial tape. large stringers or foam stringers are completely fiber glassed. plywood stringers are capped with cleats, one on each side. cleats are typically 1” square pine stock found in the trim department of a home store..
